The frequency and duration of use depend on individual needs. Multiple daily applications of Deumavan Protective Ointment, including for preventive purposes, are recommended.

Deumavan Wash Lotion gently cleanses and complements the use of all Deumavan products. Together with Deumavan Care Cream, it is part of the “Medical Skin Care according to Prof. Dr. Petersen.”

Deumavan Protective Ointment was developed “for her & him.” Due to its special formulation, Deumavan is suitable for daily intimate care, as well as for treating dry, itchy intimate skin (e.g., in cases of neurodermatitis, psoriasis), and for protecting the intimate skin from aggressive components in urine or stool.

The water-free Deumavan Protective Ointment contains only oils and fats of highly pure pharmaceutical quality and is free from potentially irritating excipients (e.g., free from alcohol, emulsifiers, and preservatives such as parabens).

Deumavan Protective Ointment contains paraffins and white petrolatum. The latter is a gel made from solid and liquid paraffins. Only highly purified components that meet the strict quality standards of the German Pharmacopoeia are used in Deumavan, including the paraffins and petrolatum it contains. Both have been used in pharmacy, dermatology, and cosmetics for around 150 years, primarily due to their

1. excellent tolerability (e.g., no known allergies),
2. significantly better shelf life compared to vegetable oils, and
3. protective and caring effects on the skin.

These properties are also characteristic of Deumavan Protective Ointment. The efficacy and tolerability of Deumavan Protective Ointment, and thus its formulation, have been tested in clinical studies—specifically for various chronic skin conditions in the intimate and anal areas.

And last but not least: Paraffin is even approved for use in the food industry, where it is known as E 905 or microcrystalline wax.

A pH value exists only in the presence of water. Deumavan Protective Ointment is a water-free preparation. Therefore, it does not have a pH value and cannot interfere with the healthy pH balance of the delicate and sensitive intimate skin.

If the intimate and/or anal area is being treated with a medicated topical preparation (e.g., ointment or cream containing cortisone), a doctor should be consulted. In such cases, it may be necessary to apply Deumavan Protective Ointment only after a certain time interval or not at all.

However, if medications are taken internally (e.g., tablets, drops, injections), no interactions with Deumavan Protective Ointment need to be considered. This also applies when these medications are used to treat skin conditions in the intimate and/or anal area. In such cases, it can even be very beneficial to use Deumavan Protective Ointment alongside the medication therapy.

Deumavan Protective Ointment is a water-free, fat-rich formulation. This gives it a soft, spreadable consistency and allows it to form a protective film on the skin.
At higher temperatures—such as in summer or during transport—the consistency may change. In some cases, a small amount of oily substance may seep out when opening the tube.

The ointment can still be used as intended on the external intimate area. Please store Deumavan® in a dry place at room temperature, as indicated on the packaging.

Yes, Deumavan Protective Ointment can leave greasy residues on textiles due to its high fat content. These stains are usually not a sign of a product defect but rather a result of the nourishing and protective ingredients – especially the high-quality fats used.

Tip for stain removal:
If the ointment gets on clothing, it is recommended to treat the stain as soon as possible with a grease-dissolving pre-wash detergent and then wash the garment as usual. Avoid heat (e.g., ironing or tumble drying) before the stain is removed, as this can set the stain permanently.

Deumavan Protective Ointment can be used to protect and care for the delicate and sensitive intimate skin (external female intimate area, male intimate area, perineum, and anal region).

When used daily, Deumavan Protective Ointment is suitable for preventing and/or alleviating the following complaints:

Skin changes accompanied by burning, itching, redness, and/or swelling caused by:

• mechanical stress (e.g., during sports, sitting in a wheelchair, sexual intercourse*)
• non-infectious skin conditions (e.g., neurodermatitis, psoriasis, vulvodynia)
• improper intimate cleansing and care
• dryness of the intimate skin (e.g., also after radiation therapy, during and after menopause)
• soreness in the anal area (e.g., due to diarrhea, fissures, and hemorrhoids)

Yes. Deumavan Protective Ointment is suitable for long-term use as well as for intimate care several times a day. In many cases, this is even advisable—for example, in cases of dryness of the intimate skin due to menopause, psoriasis in the genital area, or for protection against mechanical stress caused by prolonged sitting in a wheelchair or wearing incontinence products (e.g., diapers).

Especially good protection against mechanical stress and related skin damage is achieved when Deumavan Protective Ointment is applied preventively.

Yes. Careful intimate hygiene and care are even highly recommended during pregnancy.

There are several reasons for this:

Hormonal changes can cause the skin, including the intimate skin, to become dry. Dry intimate skin is prone to itching and infections. Urinary incontinence can also occur during pregnancy. In such cases, the delicate and sensitive intimate skin should be protected from contact with urine. Deumavan Protective Ointment is very well suited for these and other intimate area problems.

It protects and cares for the intimate area. Additionally, the area can be gently cleansed with Deumavan Wash Lotion. After all, a healthy intimate area contributes significantly to personal well-being during pregnancy and also to an undisturbed course of pregnancy.

Deumavan is not a conventional lubricant. The intended use of Deumavan Protective Ointment (which is rich in fats) is to protect and care for the sensitive skin of the external intimate and anal areas. This also includes protecting the delicate intimate skin from mechanical stress during sexual intercourse.

Some users do use Deumavan Protective Ointment as a lubricant or find its properties generally pleasant for that purpose. However, it is very important to note that certain condoms (e.g., latex condoms) are sensitive to fats and oils.

Any mechanical stress, including during sexual intercourse, can strain or even injure the extremely delicate and sensitive intimate skin. In women, this primarily affects the vulva area, and in men, the glans. This is especially true when the intimate skin there is very dry (e.g., due to age or improper intimate hygiene).

Daily application of the fat-rich Deumavan Protective Ointment helps the intimate skin to regenerate itself. As a result, its elasticity and resilience increase, making it more resistant to future mechanical stress.

To prevent damage to the intimate skin, it is also advisable to apply a thin protective layer of Deumavan immediately before sexual intercourse*.

Both partners should follow this advice: The better cared for a person’s intimate area is, the less damage is caused to their partner’s intimate area.
