“Itching and burning…”
Despite taking good care of the body, the skin in the intimate region may become irritated or inflamed, and start to itch and burn. There may be many causes for this, though often it is our need for cleanliness: excessive washing and a lack of care, or a lack of the appropriate care, disturbs the natural protective film on our skin and causes an imbalance.
Further causes of discomfort are sensitive skin (hereditary), mechanical stress or diminishing hormone production, e.g. during menopause. Another cause can be skin irritation as a result of fungal or bacterial infections, or skin diseases. If the discomfort persists for several days, it is essential to consult a doctor in order to rule out any serious diseases.
The most common causes for intimate discomfort are
- skin irritation caused by infection and inflammation, e.g. from yeasts
- dry skin, e.g. due to washing and cleansing too frequently or use of unsuitable products
- skin damage from constant rubbing of skin which is too dry
- thinning skin, e.g. due to age-related hormone deficiency
Intimate discomfort can also affect the anal region
Discomfort can often also occur in the anal region caused by irritation, injury and dry skin. Mechanical stress in particular plays a major role here, for example as a result of increased cleaning of the anal region in a dry state: wiping with dry toilet tissue, mostly combined with sticky, frequent and thin bowel movements, causes the skin to become damaged and irritated. Rough toilet paper will increase the damage. Problems caused by haemorrhoids also place the person affected under increased discomfort.
By applying a fat-based ointment, especially before and after bowel movement, the skin in the anal region is given a protective film to protect it against microorganisms and counteract the strain which can result from frequent cleaning.
Regular, appropriate use of a moisturising intimate hygiene product of superior quality will provide the skin with long-lasting care and protection.
